When it finally lands, she steps outside and finds herself in a strange and beautiful land. Before she can get him out from under the bed, the tornado carries the farmhouse away. Dorothy remembers to go in the storm cellar, but Toto hides under the bed, and she refused to go down without him. While he and Aunt Em are heading into town to run an errand, a tornado approaches. He brings home a surprise for her and her pet dog, Toto. Uncle Henry and Aunt Em are concerned as this is tornado season, so Uncle Henry shows Dorothy the storm cellar and tells her to go in it when she sees one. We are introduced to Dorothy's life in Kansas with her Uncle Henry and Aunt Em.
